Dossier on Human Rights violations in Colombia
In 2021, Colombia experienced one of the largest social mobilizations in recent decades. The government proposed reforms that threatened the economic stability of many citizens, and amid the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 crisis, the situation became unbearable. In response, people across cities and towns took to the streets to protest, exercising their right to oppose the government. However, these demonstrations were met with severe repression, leading to numerous human rights violations and breaches of international conventions.
Closely following these events, civil activists and members of the Colombian diaspora in the UK united to create international pressure against the government's harsh response. Their goal was to raise awareness, halt the repression, and advocate for solutions that addressed the needs of Colombian families.
As a designer, I contributed to this movement with the editorial edition of The Dossier—a comprehensive document summarizing the legal framework of the civil uprising. It detailed instances where police forces violated human rights and international conventions, supported by video evidence and expert analysis from historians, human rights defenders, and social movement leaders.
This document played a crucial role in drawing the attention of the UK Parliament to the crisis in Colombia, highlighting the connections between the national strike, the implementation of the peace agreements, and their broader consequences.
